HOW TO USE MEGADISC 7 - DOUBLE-CLICK ON THE ICONS AT WILL
***********************************************************************
There are no dramatic changes in using Megadisc this issue - to
display the text files, PRINTEXT is used again. There was quite a lot
of positive feedback about it, especially due to the fact it had
sliders on the side to page up and down through the files, and some
people found the SPEECH capabilities pretty useful. Don't forget that
there is a HELP screen which you can find in the first menu; and once
you've got the PRINTEXT screen up, you can LOAD another text file or
graphic, via a requestor. So if you happen to have read this file, for
example, and you want to read a few articles, select LOAD FILE, and
once the requestor has listed the contents of the disk, select ARTICLES
and then select an article, and click on OK. PRINTEXT comes to us
courtesy Opher Kahane, whose details are in the HELP screen of his
program.
As usual, the ARTGALLERY graphics can be double-clicked to view
them just like everything else on the disk,(except where explained).
Some people have mentioned a difficulty in getting out of the
graphic screen - just a single click in the top left corner will do it.
If at first you don't succeed, try again, since there's an invisible
button up there and it's pretty small so it can be missed.
A note about DUTILS2, Mike Hansell's fine directory utility - to
save space on the disk, this program has been compressed. The only
change that this makes is a rather flash "rainbow" screen as the
program is "un-packed". Instead of taking up 65K the program takes up
about 39K, a good saving.
Mike Simpson's Spreadsheet program A-KALK will ask for "Volume
EXTRAS" when you double-click on it. It's looking for AMIGABASIC on
your EXTRAS disk, so put that disk into your drive and it will carry on
and load it up. If you happen to have renamed the disk, you should
rename it back, at least for the purpose of running programs from a
disk which doesn't actually include AmigaBASIC. Note that you should use
the version supplied according to the memory you've got (512K or more).
To use the UTILITIES provided by Nic Wilson and Andy Clay, you'll
need to enter the CLI, as they are not designed to run from icons.
Follow the instructions in the explanatory file in the Utilities drawer
double-click the "GOTOCLI" icon to enter the CLI.
And that's about it - if you want to print out the entire text
contents of Megadisc, double click on the PRINTALLFILES icon in the
MD_INFO drawer, having made sure that your printer is ready and you've
got about 90 pages ready (there should be something for everyone!). To
print out a particular file, select PRINT from the PRINTEXT menu - a
requestor comes up, select the file you want to print (make sure it's
not an icon ".info" file) and hit OK, having made sure your printer is
ready.
Have a look at the files in the MD_INFO drawer for more info about
MEGADISC.
